Glenarm Walk Leaders are a voluntary group of 9 leaders who have undertaken Tour Guide Training with Belfast Met , but more significantly we have been leading and enjoying themed walking for past 15 years. We offer walks with a heritage theme, ranging from archaeological sites, red squirrel trails, old cemeteries and church ruins to natural landscapes and clachans with townland names. We find that most walkers like a walk/talk with landmark sights or flora/fauna pointed out and opportunities for photographs while some want to be challenged over rough mountain terrain and longer distance. We can accommodate both and often divide the group accordingly.
A major strength of our group is the very good relationships we have built with landowners over the years so that we are welcomed to walk on private lands. This privilege we guard respectfully because this has allowed us access some wonderful walking off the regular routes where there may be remains of early farming practices, small scale local industry, protected habitats or preserved sites. This enhanced walks offering and our long years of team building and working together has enabled us organise a Walking Festival Weekend over the past 2 years so that the Glenarm Walking Festival is now an established slot on the Walking Calendar. Our slot is last weekend of September Sat 29th & Sunday 30th and a programme is in formation. We have a No Dogs policy on all of our walks because we are regularly on private lands.
